Meet Analytical Spectroscopy Facilitator, Dr Patricia Hayes.
What is your role?
My position title within ANFF Materials is Analytical Spectroscopy Facilitator. This position involves operation, maintenance, training, research support and provision of access to UOW staff and students and ANFF clients on Spectrometers (NMR, Raman, FT-IR, UV-VIS, Fluorescence) and Chromatographic (HPLC, GPC, LCMS and GCMS) systems.
What is your area of expertise and what kind of experience do you have in this area?
I am an organic synthetic chemist (PhD) with a focus on total asymmetric synthesis of natural products varying from marine natural products to insect pheromones.
I also have strong expertise in analytical chemistry acquired during my PhD (teaching analytical techniques to second-year students) and during different positions at the University of Queensland, including Management of the Analytical and Preparative Enantioselective Chromatography Facility, extraction and structural elucidation of the various components of medicinal herbs (collaboration with MediHerb, a manufacturer and distributor of herbal formulations and supplements).
