Characterisation

The node has available state of the art instruments essential for characterization of materials and structures. Over the years, ANFF Materials node has consistently provided service to academic and industrial collaborators in the field of materials and structures characterization. Materials node offers its services in the form of training, collaboration, assistance/advice in method development and data analysis.

The available instruments include:

  • Rheometer: to measure rheological behaviour of materials;

  • Dynamic mechanical analyser (DMA) and Thermomechanical analyser (TMA): to investigate thermos-mechanical properties of materials and structures;

  • Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and Thermogravimetric analyser (TGA): to measure thermal properties of materials;

  • LFA: to study thermal conductivity of materials;

  • Zetasizer: to measure particle size, Zeta potential and molecular weight in a liquid medium;

  • NMR: to determine the content and purity of materials as well as their molecular structure;

  • Mass spectrometry: to measures the mass-to-charge ratio of ions;

  • Raman spectroscopy and FTIR: for structural analysis of materials;

  • XPS/UPS spectroscopy: for surface only compositional and molecular alignment studies;

  • Atomic Force Microscopy: for surface topography studies as well as force and conductivity measurements;

  • Scanning Helium Microscopy: for damage free imaging of delicate samples including biological and soft-polymer materials

  • GPC

  • ICP

  • Solar characterisation equipment

  • TCi Thermal Conductivity Analyzer
